Configuration Instructions Windows XP SP2 Users

In August 2004, Microsoft released Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP.  SP2 includes a number of new features, such as a built-in firewall and pop-up blocker.  In order to ensure that Infotriever continues to operate seamlessly, users or system administrators will need to make the minor configuration changes outlined below.

New/First-time Infotriever Users
Note:  If you already had Infotriever installed on your system when you upgraded to SP2, please skip ahead to the "Existing Infotriever Users" section below.  

By default, SP2 blocks the download of ActiveX controls, such as the one that Infotriever uses to install itself on your system.  If you see the following message when you try to download Infotriever, then Infotriever has not downloaded successfully.

To enable Infotriever to download onto your system, please do the following:

1. Click on the text box at the top of your browser - just below the address bar - where it says "Click here to install...".
2. Click "Install" in the dialog box below that appears.

Once you have installed Infotriever successfully, please follow the additional configuration instructions below for Existing Infotriever Users.

Existing Infotriever Users
Pop-Up Blocker
SP2 includes a built-in pop-up blocker.  By default, the pop-up blocker is enabled.  To ensure that Infotriever continues to operate seamlessly, you must establish Infotriever as an "allowed site" (note:  you may also disable your pop-up blocker entirely, but this is not recommended).  To establish Infotriever as an enabled site:

1. Select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu in your Internet Explorer.
2. Click on the "Privacy" tab.
3. In the "Pop-up Blocker" section at the bottom, click on the "Settings" button.
   
   
   
   
   
4. In the "Pop-up Blocker Settings" dialog that appears, add "my.infotriever.com" in the blank entitled "Address of Web site to allow", and click the "Add" button at right.
5. Repeat this process for all websites from which you use Infotriever.
6. Click "Close", and then "OK".

Optimal Operation (Optional)
For optimal operation of Infotriever, we also recommend that you re-use existing windows as follows:

1. Select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu in your Internet Explorer.
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
3. Scroll down until you see the option "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
4. Enable it by left-clicking the box.
5. Click "OK", and then "OK".
